Censuring The Censors

Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction

Sadly, Basic Instinct 2 was heavily watered down for the cinemas. Indeed, over fifteen minutes of the movie’s original sexual footage was cut out to please the censors so the MPAA, in the US, would give the film an R rating as opposed to its original NC-17 rating.

Update: The unrated US disc is listed with a running time of approximately 116 minutes NTSC, which makes it roughly two minutes longer than the 114 minute censored theatrical version (113:40 according to the BBFC). So it appears that our R4 DVD is also the watered down version. Running times for the UK releases (film and DVD) show that they match ours in both cases. It is also uncut on R3 DVD in Korea, according to DVD Compare. (Rod W.)
